Convoy OA.172(1)

Note: OA.172 sailed at 0700 hours on June 21 and was composed of two parts, OA.172(1) and OA.172(2).
OA.172(2) conformed in so far as was possible to OA.172.(1) regarding formations, navigation
and zig-zagging but remained a separate convoy sailing 2 cables astern of the rear ships of OA.172(1).
TROLLA, EMBLA and BONDE were left behind as they could not maintain 5 knots in fresh wind and sea.
Pdts 81, 82 and 85 took positions 51, 52 and 53 when coastal vessels left off the Lizard.
PORT HOBERT rescued 29 survivors from RANDSFJORD (Nor) in position 50.29N, 5.26W
(70 miles SSE of Queenstown) at 1153 hours on June 23.
RANDSFJORD (dispersed from HX.49) was torpedoed by U-30 at 0100 hours on June 22, 1940 .
WINDSORWOOD is also reported as being sunk for OA.172 but did not appear in the files.
